I have lived in West Jordan for
20 years, have raised my children here and have always felt SAFE. The importance of this peace of mind cannot
be overemphasized – public safety is one of the foremost roles local government
can address.
As mayor I will support the
quality efforts of our police and fire departments in meeting the needs of our
residents. It is my belief that every
resident of West Jordan is entitled to feel safe and secure in their home and
in their neighborhood. Every child should feel safe on their way to and from
school and should feel safe while attending school as well.
I truly believe West Jordan has
the finest police department and fire department in the state. As your Mayor I will support the efforts of
Chief McGuire and Chief Wardle and learn what we can do in city government to
ensure that our police and firefighters are properly equipped and that fire
trucks and stations are well maintained.
We need to maintain our police and fire response times at the highest
standard.
While supporting our public
safety officers is important, it is not enough.
I have learned form my heritage that it is important for each person to
be as self-reliant as possible to respond to emergencies. As a city government we need to reach out to
the citizens get to know their wants and needs and communicate openly. This will exemplify one of the greatest
assets a community can have in times of an emergency, namely, neighbors knowing
and supporting neighbors.
West Jordan City government also
needs to optimize opportunities for our citizens to be educated on emergency
procedures and emergency communication.
In this I will continue to help strengthen the West Jordan emergency
response plan so that residents will be better prepared in the event of a major
emergency.
