As Mayor of West Jordan I will:
• Lead the City Council, as its Chairman, to re-examine the City Budget, looking for additional ways to keep a balanced budget and still meet the needs of a growing, vibrant community.
• Work with the City Manager in retaining our good, city employees, rewarding them for their extra efforts, loyalty, and hard work for our community, and attract new employees to our city that contribute to our growth and development.
• Fight hard for citizen input and guidance as we move forward in our deliberations for the City. We have many talented people in our community who can contribute to better decisions being made by our city officials. I intend to strongly encourage greater participation by our residents and businesses, and promote a climate of “listening” as well as “doing.”
• Encourage city government, along with vital citizen involvement, to focus on improved transportation, safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation within our city, that will contribute to our quality of life during these next few years of rapid growth. One of my first acts a Mayor will be to set up a Citizens Committee to look at West Jordan’s Master Plan for the City, and working with our City staff, suggested how our Master Plan should be revised and brought up-to-date.
• Focus on well-planned, improved Economic Development in our City, including commercial, light industrial, and heavy industrial areas that are compatible with zoning requirements, and support a growing residential community. I will work with local, county, state and federal agencies in bringing further economic growth to our community in a well-controlled way that will increase our tax base and provide greater services for our residents.
