West
Jordan’s infrastructure parallels public safety in terms of being a priority for
our citizens and in determining our quality of life. Maintaining
and enhancing our current water supply, sewage, utilities, and roadways needs to
be a constant focus of our city council to address our current needs and to meet
future demands efficiently.
Some members of our current City
Council have worked hard to improve our road quality. I will support ongoing efforts and will also
take every opportunity to lobby the county and state to facilitate the traffic
commute for our residents along our primary east west corridors of 7000 South,
7800 South, and 9000 South. I favor the
overpass construction on 7800 South and New Bingham Highway and the extension to
5600 west. I have been, and will continue to be, an opponent to any tolls for
use of the Mountain View Corridor and will as Mayor lobby our legislature to
finish the construction while minimizing the impact on any current residential
areas.
Other areas of infrastructure,
such as our storm drain system need to be upgraded in those areas where
flooding has been a problem in the past.
Residents should not expect their homes and possessions to be at risk
because of inadequate drainage. Flooding
has certainly increased the cost of their insurance and certainly has caused
them a lot of time, effort and drudgery related to clean-up and repairs.
I will work with our city planners to ensure they insist on adequate
pre-development engineering of drainage-related issues.
We need to address the adequacy
of our streets and develop a systematic and sustainable plan for fixing
potholes that cause damage to our vehicles.
As mayor I will work with our city maintenance staff to lay out a plan
to monitor roadways and to respond on needed repairs in a timely manner. This is one area where with the proper means
of communication West Jordan residents can be extra eyes for the city crews in
identifying road repair issues before they become major concerns.
Our public works department has
demonstrated this last year with the significant snow fall their experience in
keeping our roads safe and clear of snow and ice. I applaud our Department of
Public Works and will do all I can as Mayor to supply them with support.
